Introducing new church leaders
This is a bit delayed, but on June 20th, our church celebrated our 20 year anniversary as well as install two deacons and one elder.
Introducing the new deacons:
Deacon Han Deacon Lee (Brandon’s grandfather)
and our newest Ruling Elder:
Elder Moon
He will be joining Ruling Elder Jong Lee as a part of our church’s session (Church’s executive leadership team which is led by our Senior Pastor, Rev. Choi)
Elder Lee
For the elders, from God through Apostle Peter:
“1Peter 5 Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed, 2 shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; 3 nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
For all of us, from God through Peter:
5 You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.“
1-5-3 Prayer Exercise
1-5-3 Prayer Proposal
To the Risen Sun Church Family,
In an ongoing attempt to arouse our church family to more prayerful lives, our Senior Pastor (Rev. Jonathan Choi) proposes this new prayer exercise for our spiritual growth. Although everyone in our church is busy with different obligations in life, this cannot take away our need, as God’s people, to pray. Therefore, based off of the prayer narratives in the book of Daniel, the new prayer exercise idea is that on a given day, we ought to pray three times a day for at least five minutes.
The first proposed prayer would be to spend five minutes praying in the morning (possibly over breakfast) about needs of the day and for family members.
The second proposed prayer would be to spend five minutes praying during the lunch time praying for family, friends, coworkers, and/or classmates.
The third proposed prayer would be to spend five minutes in the evening praying about the events from the day.
This exercise is for the benefit of individual members in the Church, as well as the Church as a whole.

2014 Inner City Mission to Philly (with CSM)
Howdy all,
So this is a little late, but here is the formal (at least on our page) about the upcoming 2014 Inner City Mission Team to Philly. We’ll be partnering this year with a group called CSM (center for student missions). We’re very excited about God expanding our dreams and vision for our church stepping out of our comfort zone and “being Jesus with skin on” to those who are often and easily overlooked. Anyway, we’re excited to have two members from last year’s DC Team returning (Jay & Brandon). As such, we’re only able to take a limited number of students on this team, so take a look at the application form, fill it out, and turn it in by Jan 31st! Here’s a link to CSM’s site on Philly. Come join us.

A New “Addition” to the Family
This is a bit over due, but better late than never!
It is middle of October and here is the official announcement of a new “addition” to our English Congregation family. It’s the announcement that as of September 1, we have “added” a new group called “College+” – which will serve the people who are college and up. So it’s technically a “new” addition, but not really. Some of the members within College+ have been around for a little while now, but they didn’t have a specific ministry family of similarly aged people to grow and share life with. THIS is the main goal and reason for the existence of College+. There’ll be many times when the English Congregation will act as one body. But there’ll be other times when it’ll be separated between youth and college+.
Secondly, College+ also exists to open up our humble little church as a spiritual home or a spiritual hospital for the area’s many college students. Therefore, College+ allows us to welcome college, grads, working professionals, and etc better, especially when they know that there is a community of like aged people to discuss, ask, ponder, wonder, wander, cry, laugh, and eat with. This is our attempt to live out the community of faith shown in Acts 2:44-47.
Putting our faith in action
In place of 30 Hour Famine, feeding hungry kids around the world, this year – we’re supporting the ministry of the Lamb Center! Look at this page for things they need to reach the poor and needy in Fairfax!

We’ll start at the first week of May to gather goods and then drop it off at the Lamb Center at the end of May! Only to do it again in June and so on. We are also looking into volunteering on a consistent basis!
Book Club/Discussion Group
